DEFINITION

Advanced Dialog: A voice user interface specification that cannot efficiently be represented by a finite state machine.

CHARTER
The Advanced Dialog Working Group has the objectives of accelerating transfer of Advanced Dialog concepts from research to industry and of encouraging incorporation of Advanced Dialog methods into commercial applications. We do this by finding the best advanced dialog methods available, forming a model for incorporating these methods into practical development systems, and rolling this strategy into a standardization effort such as the Metalanguage specification project.

These objectives are supported by the following activities

*Writing challenging use cases
*Partnering with experts from academia
*Planning workshops
*Developing recommendations for the Metalanguage working group

CURRENT PROJECTS
The VoiceXML Tools Committee consists of three working groups: Data Logging WG; Metalanguage WG; and Open Source Tools WG.
