VOICEXML FORUM MRCP COMMITTEE
CURRENT PROJECTS
The Media Resource Control Protocol (MRCP) specifies a common interface to media processing resources that provide capabilities such as automatic speech recognition, speech synthesis (text-to-speech), as well as speaker verification and identification. MRCP allows client devices, such as VoiceXML browsers, to interact with these resources in a standards-based, vendor-independent manner. There are two versions of the protocol; the original MRCP (now commonly referred to as MRCP v1) draft has been superseded by the newer MRCP v2 specification, which is under active development by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). Both versions of the protocol, however, can be found in the marketplace today. The VoiceXML Forum feels that MRCP is a key technology for enabling the continued success and adoption of VoiceXML. As such, the MRCP Liaison Committee has been formed to evangelize and support this protocol within the industry. This committee also aims to offer educational sessions on MRCP as well as certification and/or interoperability testing resources for MRCP-based products. Additionally, the team aims to ensure that VoiceXML Forum members are aware of this evolving standard and have the necessary information to provide feedback to the IETF on specification drafts. Information and web-based tools related to the IETF Speech Services Control (SpeechSC) working group, which is responsible for the MRCP v2 specification, can be found in the SpeechSC Status Pages. This site also links to current and older drafts of the MRCP v2 specification and provides tools to analyze differences between versions. Information about subscribing and sending to the SpeechSC mailing list can be found at the SpeechSC Mailing List Page. Any feedback on MRCP v2 specification should be sent to this list.
