VOICEXML FORUM TOOLS COMMITTEE OPEN SOURCE GRAMMARS WORKING GROUP

CHARTER
The Open Source Grammars WG's charter is to create a set of open source grammars for use in speech recognition.

PROJECTS

The VoiceXML Forum Tools Committee intends to solicit donated speech recognition grammars for use in an Open Source Grammar specification effort. The committee will use these contributions to help create a set of industry standard grammars using SRGS and SISR. The goals of this effort are to:
  1. Make it easier for service designers to develop speech applications.

  2. Unify human-machine interfaces so applications from different vendors have behaviors that are familiar to users.

These goals are part of an overall objective of the Tools Committee to help grow the speech industry by making VoiceXML applications easier to develop. We also expect that, as application developers adopt standard grammars, that users will become familiar with what recognizers understand and will have greater comfort and success in talking to automated systems.
